Lunar Surface
That’s it, it looks cylindrical in shape. As it gets closer, you can make out a flame coming out the bottom. It looks like a lander of some kind, but massive! Taller than a building! You feel the ground rumbling, almost like a miniature earthquake. Then, it hits you: it needs a landing zone, and you’re in a clear, flat area. You’d better get moving! You begin to panic as the ship’s profile draws ever closer, eclipsing the sun as it grows larger in your view. Your first instinct is to run. You assume a jogging pose and attempt to sprint out of the way, only to land flat on your face. Turns out running in low gravity isn’t too easy. You get back up, shaking off the dust from your suit. Then, you try your bunny hop once more. The ship’s shadow gets larger and larger as you desperately try to escape. The shaking beneath your feet gets even more intense, making it difficult to keep your balance. Slowly but surely, though, you begin to gain some distance. Just when you think you’ll be crushed, you give a sigh of relief. You’ll just be able to clear the ship’s body. That is, except for the extending landing legs. Without warning, you feel one of them slam you to the ground, pressing you into a sheet instantly. The intensity of the rocket’s weight is unbearable. You feel as though you’ve been forcibly pushed into the second dimension. It must have weighed at least a hundred tons on Earth, not that the lower gravity made it feel much lighter here. This intense squishing makes you lose track of time. Was it 5 minutes? A few days? You weren’t sure, but you feel something go “clang” nearby. After anticipating something for a few minutes, you nearly dismiss it as sensory deprivation, when suddenly, you feel a tug at the corner of your foot! You were being rescued! This pull isn’t exactly ginger, however. You feel yourself get streeeeetched as the hopefully kind stranger struggles from the weight of the ship. With a little elbow grease, though, you snap back like a rubber band and plop on the ground. Then, you feel a pair of hands pick you up. You’re face down to the lunar surface, so you can’t tell what’s going on, but at least the worst of this is over! Well, you think so at least. Unbeknownst to you, the astronaut has managed to find a dislodged flagpole a mere few yards away. One that is missing its flag... Before you have a chance to look up, you feel yourself being stretched onto the flag’s metal frame. If you could yell, it would be meaningless. No sound in space means that you’re as good as a piece of fabric to everyone around you. With a few more pulls and stretches here and there, the flag has been set back up. Unfortunately, you didn’t exactly volunteer to replace it. A job well done, the astronaut heads back into his spaceship, ready to head home to tell the tale of his adventure to the moon. You, on the other hand, will be taking the scenic route for quite a while. Perhaps this isn’t the best time to inform you that the sun's rays cause flags to bleach after a few years. Let’s only hope that you’ll inspire generations to come regardless.
