Fishing
Summer is the perfect time to climb into a boat, swim out onto a lake and fish. At least that’s what the otter that coaxed you into renting this boat and fishing pole said when you were walking by the lake.
You hadn’t exactly planned to go fishing, but you might as well make the best of it now. After reaching the middle of the lake, you grab the rod, wind up and cast it. You hear a satisfying splash once it drops into the water and lean back in the boat, waiting for a fish to bite.
You watch the clouds drift by as you soak in the sun, and wonder if you’ll even catch something, when the rod suddenly twitches.
You are back up immediately, hands wrapped around the fishing rod, and you begin to pull.
Whatever you’ve got hooked doesn’t want to come up easy, though, and you have to use all your strength. At first, it looks like you won’t be able to pull it up at all, the rod creaks and strains as you pull harder and harder, but then, suddenly, all the tension is just gone. You stumble and fall backwards down into the boat, and you watch as your catch sails through the air, landing in the boat with you. It’s…
A giant plug?
You scratch your head, wonderwing why something like that is in the lake. You look it over, trying to figure out its purpose when you notice that your boat is moving. As you look out onto the lake, you notice why. You’re slowly drifting along at the edge of a giant whirlpool, sucking in other boats, swimmers and anything else unfortunate enough to have been in the water.
You squeak and grab the oars, trying to get away, but you don’t stand a chance. You’re drifting closer and closer to the center, only to be pulled right down the middle and finally you learn why there was a plug in the lake. At the center of the whirlpool is a pipe, sucking in all the water in the lake, and you were the one opening it up!
You gulp as you get closer and closer, and eventually, you, too, are sucked down into the pipe. It’s wide and spacious at first, though it quickly slims down, and while your boat does stop you from being dragged further down at first, the strain eventually shatters it into pieces, and from there on out you have no choice but to come along for the ride.
You squeeze into gradually narrowing pipes, your body squishing and smushing down, stretching longer as it is squeezed down into a thin tube. You slip through the pipes for a while, until you finally see a light at the end. It comes closer and closer, and soon, you pop back out into the air, launched from a little opening in the grass, followed by the last bit of water that sprays out of it like a little fountain.
When you come down, you land on a pile of colorful tubes, each one with a face that stares at you angrily. They probably also know who they have to thank for ending up like this, and all you can do is hope that you pop back before they do, or you might end up not only looking like a pool noodle…
