Fishing
Summer is the perfect time to climb into a boat, swim out onto a lake and fish. At least that’s what the otter that coaxed you into renting this boat and fishing pole said when you were walking by the lake.
You hadn’t exactly planned to go fishing, but you might as well make the best of it now. After reaching the middle of the lake, you grab the rod, wind up and cast it. You hear a satisfying splash once it drops into the water and lean back in the boat, waiting for a fish to bite.
You watch the clouds drift by as you soak in the sun, and wonder if you’ll even catch something, when the rod suddenly twitches.
You are back up immediately, hands wrapped around the fishing rod, and you begin to pull.
Whatever you’ve got hooked doesn’t want to come up easy, though, and you have to use all your strength. At first, it looks like you won’t be able to pull it up at all, the rod creaks and strains as you pull harder and harder, but then, suddenly, all the tension is just gone. You stumble and fall backwards down into the boat, and you watch in awe as the absolutely enormous fish sails through the air and blots out the sun, casting its giant shadow over you.
That has to be a new world record, or something, because you can’t imagine anyone has ever caught a fish that big. You’d have mistaken it for a whale, were it just a little bigger.
Amongst your excitement, you do realize that this poses a bit of an issue.
That fish won’t fit in your boat at all.
The fish, on the other hand, doesn’t seem too concerned with that. Its giant fish eyes regard you with a certain look that seems to say ‘Oh hey, a snack’. The shadow around you grows larger and larger as the fish comes down towards you, opening its maw wide.
There is a loud ‘splash’ as it smacks back into the water, soon disappearing under the surface.
You hadn’t planned on becoming fish food today, and you will make sure to let the otter know that he should have warned you about these ludicrously big fishes once you get out of there.
